Listen
"Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance."
Proverbs 1:5 (NIV)
It has often been said, "God gave us two ears and one mouth because He expected us to listen twice as much as we speak." The Spirit of God is always ready to guide His children, but if we never take time to listen to Him we will miss out on all the revelation knowledge and wisdom He desire to give us. Prayer is to be a two way conversation, we speak and then we wait and allow God to speak, and if we are wise we will indeed allow the Lord twice as much time as we have taken. William Barclay, a Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at the University of Glasgow, once said, "We are trying not so much to make God listen to us as to make ourselves listen to him; we are trying not to persuade God to do what we want, but to find out what he wants us to do. It so often happens that in prayer we are really saying, 'Thy will be changed,' when we ought to be saying, 'Thy will be done.' The first object of prayer is not so much to speak to God as to listen to him." Our Father in Heaven truly knows best, and if we will take time to listen to Him, He will surely show us great and mighty things we did not know! In your prayer time make time to listen to what the Lord has to say, allow Him to direct your prayers, coming into agreement with His perfect will. For, if we know God's will and pray accordingly, we can be certain that whatever we ask will be done for us!
