"David longed for water and said, Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!" 2 Samuel 23:15 (NIV)

David knew the excellence of the water near the gate of Bethlehem and longed for a drink of it. Three of David's greatest warriors heard of David's longing, so they took up arms and broke through the enemy's line to go and get their king that which he desired. These three warriors did this at great risk, even though they could have lost their lives; they thought the risk worthy to satisfy the longing of their king.

Like David, our King Jesus has a longing, though not for water, but for the souls of mankind. The Bible tells us, "The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent." Our King has a desperate longing that we can help meet! We like David's mighty warriors must choose to lay our own personal needs and safety aside to fulfill the longing of our King! We must take up arms, which for us is prayer and God's Word, and brake through the enemy's line, taking back the lost souls of mankind! The enemy will not freely give up these lost souls, but we are more than capable armed with Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! Our task is not an easy one, but it is a worthy one! Let us fulfill the longing of our King as we go forward every day proclaiming the Gospel of our salvation, kicking back the gates of hell, and taking the souls of the lost for the glory of our King!
