"But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the LORD'S oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul."

To make amends for the treachery of King Saul David is forced to give to the Gibeonites seven of Saul's descendants, whom would be executed. But, because of the blood covenant made between Mephibosheth's father Johnathan and David, Mephibosheth is spared from the claim of vengeance by the Gibeonites.

In the same way because of the blood covenant made between the Father and Son, we will be spared from "death" and the "grave", neither can touch us! This covenant cannot be broken by us, for the simple fact it was not made with us. This covenant between the Father and Son is unbreakable! And, we simply enter it by the grace of God through faith! Because of the covenant between David and Jonathan, Mephibosheth had no need to worry about his salvation, neither from the Gibeonites nor for anything else. He was protected and provided for on every side, and likewise so are we! Charles Spurgeon wrote, "There is no more blessed way of living, than the life of faith based upon a covenant-keeping God - to know that we have no care, for He cares for us; that we need have no fear, except to fear Him; that we need have no troubles, because we have cast our burdens upon the Lord, and are conscience that He will sustain us." Let us never forget how truly blessed we are because of the covenant that was made between our Father and our Lord!
