Self-Judgement

"David was furious. 'As surely as the Lord lives,' he vowed, 'any man who would do such a thing deserves to die!'" 2 Samuel 12:5

The Prophet Nathan confronts David with a made up story to illustrate the sin he was guilty of. When David hears the story he is furious! He believes anyone who does such a thing should die, but David doesn't realize that he is the guilty man. David was ready to pass judgement, but he had never taken the time to examine his own heart. If David would have taken the time to judge his own heart he could have saved himself a lot of heart-ache and pain.

We would be wise to continually examine our own hearts! It can be easy to see the faults of others and even pass judgement on them, but we often overlook our own faults and short-comings. We can't be afraid to judge sin, but we should be careful to judge it in our own lives first! We can't help someone else who's involved in a sinful life if we're in the same situation ourselves. Charles Spurgeon once wrote, "None are more unjust in their judgments of others than those who have a high opinion of themselves." Let us be careful, and just, to examine ourselves regularly, so that we may be in a place where we are able to help restore our brothers and sister when they need help.

"Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don't drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you." 2 Corinthians 13:5 (MSG)
