"Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of bed and was walking on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath." 2 Samuel 11:2 (NLT)

David should have been at war, but he stayed home and became idle. It was in his idleness that he got caught up in lustful thoughts, which led to lustful deeds. If David would have only continued in the role the Lord had given him, and went out to war, he would have saved himself a lot of misery. David's idleness would cost him greatly as he embraced the temptation to commit adultery with Bathsheba and then have her husband killed. Idle hands were surely the devil's playground that day!

God has called us to MAKE WAR against the devil and his demonic hoard! We are never to be idle! It is when we step back from what the Lord has given us to do that the devil finds a great opportunity to tempt us. The temptation can come in many forms; perhaps like David with sexual sin, or perhaps with greed, the desire to make more and more money, but regardless of what it is, it is always a result of us stepping back from what God has called us to do! J.C. Ryle, the first Anglican bishop of Liverpool, said, "Idleness is the devil's best friend. It is the surest way to give him an opportunity of doing us some harm. An idle mind is like an open door, and if Satan does not come through it himself, it is certain he will throw something in to arouse bad thoughts in us." Continue to MAKE WAR against the works of the devil! Don't become idle, opening a door for him to come into your life causing havoc! You were born again to MAKE WAR!! Go forward daily MAKING WAR against the works of the devil!!
