Delayed Promises

"David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years."

2 Samuel 5:4(NIV)

When David was about fifteen years old the Prophet Samuel anoints him as king over Israel! How excited David must have been, only a young man, but chosen over all his older brothers! But, I can only imagine the doubt and fear, concerning this promise, which must have entered into David's imagination. About fifteen years would pass before David would receive the promise of being king, and even then it was only a partial fulfillment of God's promise! It wouldn't be until seven years later, when he was thirty seven, that he would receive the fullness of God's promise to be king over all of Israel.

It can be heart-wrenching when we receive a promise from God and it doesn't come to pass right away. A.W. Pink once said, "The permanence of God's character guarantees the fulfillment of his promises." When God promises us something we can be assured it will come to pass! Our problem doesn't lie in the assurance of God's promise, but in the timing. If God has spoken a word to your heart you can be sure it will come to pass! When will it come to pass? Only the Lord himself knows! Hold tight to the promises of God for your life, they will be fulfilled in their appointed season! Don't lose faith! Keep your eyes on the Lord! When the time is right you will receive the fullness of all God has promised you!

"Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick, but a sudden good break can turn life around." Proverbs 13:12 (MSG)
