"Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine." 1 Samuel 17:40 (NIV)

David was a shepherd not a warrior, he had never worn a coat of armor or carried a sword; the instruments of his profession were a staff and a sling shot. So when Saul tried to put his suite of armor and his sword on David it didn't work. David couldn't go to battle like Saul, for God had made them different. God had not yet put a sword in David's hand, so this would not be the instrument by which the Lord brought David the victory.

Often time we try to emulate someone else that is successful, and although we can learn from their lives and the principles they've lived by, we can never be that person. God has made us each unique, and we should never try to be someone else. We should pay attention to who God has made us and what He has put in our hand, for this is how He will make us successful! God will use whatever He has placed in our hands, whether a hammer or a pen, to bring us success! We shouldn't limit God to blessing us or delivering us only by what we have seen Him do in the lives of others! God is able to bring us great victories by the smallest of means! Offer to God whatever He has put in your hands, and be amazed at the great works He will do and the great successes He will bring you!
