"After this I will return and rebuild David's fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it." Acts 15:16 (NIV)

As the Council in Jerusalem discuss the rules and laws the new Gentile believers should be required to keep James reminds them of what the Lord had said through the Prophet Amos. David's Tent was different from the Tabernacle Moses built in the wilderness and it was different then the Temple Solomon built in Jerusalem. David's Tent, like the Tabernacle and the Temple, housed the Ark of the Covenant, but unlike the other two there was no animal sacrifices offered hear. The only thing that took place was continuous worship. The Tent of David was surrounded by people appointed to worship the Lord.

The Tent of David represents the relationship God truly wants with man, and that is one of intimacy. The worship in place of the animal sacrifices is a demonstration of a relationship with God based off of love and not works. God wants us to have an intimate relationship with Him, not based off of our works, but one based off of love. It is only through an intimate relationship that all the blessings of God can flow. Our deliverance from sinful habits, God's great provision, His power to change the world; all of this flows form our relationship with Him through Christ! And, none of it is based off of our works, but off of the finished work of our Lord! God desires a close and intimate relationship with us, and it is through that relationship that we receive the heart of God for the nations, and the power of God to bring them home! Lean back in the loving arms of your Heavenly Father, and take your rest in Christ!
