Judging

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Matthew 7:1 (NIV)

Today's verse is a familiar one to Christians and none Christians a like. It often guides the way we look at, and perceive people, and their actions. Unfortunately it is often misunderstood and misused. To condemn is something only God can do, but to judge is every child of God's responsibility. And, we should never feel guilty for doing so, but we must always do it with a redemptive heart. Jesus was clear; before I can see clearly to help someone else I must take a good look at myself.

Judging for the child of God is all about avoiding sin themselves, and helping others to get out of it. James Aughey, a well know minister from the Civil War area, said, "The most generous and merciful in judgment upon the faults of others, are always the most free from faults themselves." We are the carriers of mercy, for the Spirit of Christ lives inside of us! And, when we see other who are living in sin, or one of our brothers or sister in Christ who have gotten caught up in it, we are to help restore them, showing them mercy and love! But, if we refuse to judge we can never help others who are bound by sin. Forbid yourself from condemn others, or throwing stones at them! Know there will come a time when we all need mercy. So, judge yourself first, and then judge others with a merciful and uplifting hand!

"Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day's out. Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ's law. If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived." Galatians 6:1-3(MSG)
