Don't Let Your Belly Be "god"

"For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame--who set their mind on earthly things." Philippians 3:18-19

Paul addresses the church at Philippi about a problem with some people of the church there, and sadly to say this same problem plaques much of the church today. Some of the people at the church at Philippi had set their hearts on earthly things, when they did this they began to fulfill their own desires and not those of the Lord. Paul said their belly became their "god"! Too many in the church today seek to fulfill their own desires just like the church at Philippi. Their belly is their "god"!

When we do what we want, and chase after what we desire we take control away from Jesus and take it for ourselves. We cannot live a self-fulfilling life and please God! To please God we must live a God-fulfilling life! A life that denies our own desire and seeks after the things that are pleasing to God! We have been bought and paid for with a price; the blood of Jesus Christ! We are no longer our own, and are to now live for the One who died in our place! Let us daily deny ourselves, and allow the Spirit of God to fill us, leading us into paths of righteousness for His name sake!

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.'" Matthew 16:24-25
