Shortsighted...

"For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins." 2 Peter 1:9

It can be easy for the child of God to live a life of shortsightedness. We often find ourselves focused on the priorities of this world: saving for retirement, vacation plans, children's college funds, and many other things. And, while none of these things are evil or bad, they can very easily take our attention off of what God has called us to do in this life; they can make us shortsighted. The Apostle Paul wrote, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." God has called us to live a holy life, doing exceedingly great things for Him, but when our attention goes other places, too often so does our heart, and we become ineffective Christians, living for this temporal world and not the eternal one we are a part of. I encourage you today to keep your eyes on the eternal things and remember why Jesus has redeemed you! Live a life daily that brings glory to Christ, and expands the Kingdom of Heaven, at the same time destroying the works of the devil!

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
