The Need For Love...

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing."  

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

 

As Paul discusses the gifts of the Spirit, he also expounds on the need for love.  Great things can be done in the church, but if love is absent they are of no profit.  Love is to be the trade mark of the disciple of Christ.  Love distinguishes us from the rest of the world.  In all that we do for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God, love should be our motivating factor.  Love for humanity moved God to send His only begotten Son to die for us.  And, it would be love that moved Jesus to lay His life down for the souls of all mankind.  This same love should move us to serve and live active lives for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God!  This love that moves us to live sacrificially for the cause of Christ is unique.  This kind of love "suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Trying to do the works of the Lord without love profits us nothing!  Allow the love of God to abide and move in every area of your life; at all times!  

 

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13
