An Unearned Gift...

"Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.  But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness." Romans 4:4-5

Paul reminds the church in Rome how Abraham was made right with God.  He tells them if you work for something, it's not a gift, the person you worked for is obligated to give you your wages.  But, if you did nothing to earn a payment, as Abraham, and you just trust the person who says they want to give you something for free is telling the truth, and then you simply receive that gift, this is an act of faith.  The same act of faith that made Abraham right with God.  

Abraham was made right with God by simply believing and trusting God; we are made right with Him the same way.  There is nothing we can do to make yourselves righteous, therefore God is not obligated to save or bless us in any way.  So, when we try to justify ourselves before God, we miss out on His blessing and His salvation, both of which are freely given through Jesus Christ.  Let us not try to earn the blessings and forgiveness God desires to freely give us.  Let us choose to trust God's word, and let our actions testify to such.  Believe God's Word and it will be counted to you for righteousness, and all the blessing of Abraham will be manifested in your life!
