Don't Want To...

"Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, 'Ananias.' And he said, Here I am, Lord.  So the Lord said to him, Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight." Acts 9:10-12

The Lord tells Ananias to go to Saul.  Ananias was not too happy about this, as a matter of fact he didn't want to do it.  He was afraid of what Saul might do to him.  Saul had a bad reputation and being called to go to him surely was not a pleasing thought.  Even though Saul had been a destroyer of the Church, he would soon become a mighty warrior for the cause of Christ.  Ananias submitted to the Lord's will and went to Saul, despite many understandable fears and reservations.  Ananias was obedient to God, even in the face of fear.

I'm sure Ananias could never have imagined what this persecutor of the Church would turn out to be.  God often calls us to go to people we don't want to, people we would just as soon never talk to.  Some of these people may be on the other side of the world and some may be just next door.  There is often great fear and apprehension in reaching out to the lost of this world, yet our Lord has great plans for them.  There will be times and perhaps many times the Lord calls us to do things we don't want to.  It is in those times we must put our fears and our own personal desires aside and just say "yes Lord"!

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way." Psalms 37:23
