"Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him." Zechariah 3:1

Upon Israel's return from captivity Joshua was now the High Priest.  As the High Priest Joshua was responsible for representing Israel before the Lord.  With such a high position Joshua was sure to have a high level of opposition.  Satan stood to oppose Joshua in all the Lord had called him to do.  Joshua was not alone, the Lord stood with him to rebuke satan.  Joshua had powerful opposition, but his support was much stronger than his opposition.

As we stand in this world as a chosen generation of priest unto our Lord Jesus Christ we like Joshua can expect opposition.  The harder stand we take for the Lord the more opposition we can expect.  Satan and his demonic horde will never stand idly by as we work to fulfill the Great Commission, they will always be there to resist us.  The closer we draw to the Lord, the harder the enemy will come at us.  When we sit back and are inactive Christians we feel little resistance from the enemy, but when we make a firm stand for our God and begin to work the Great Commission we become a threat to the enemy.  It is at this point the enemy takes note of us, and begins to strongly oppose us.  But don't let the enemy fool you, because of Jesus he is powerless against us.  The only power he has over us is the power we give him.  Satan will rise up against us as we actively serve our Lord, but the Lord is on our side to rebuke him.  Don't be afraid of the enemy, stay submitted to God and he will run from you!

"Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.  Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us." Romans 8:33-34
