"Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, 'Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.' And Shaphan read it before the king.  Thus it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes."  

2 Chronicles 34:18-19

Josiah was eight years old when he became king.  His father before him was not a godly king and did not follow the Law of Moses.  The Word had not been taught to Josiah or the people by the rulers of Judah.  The Word had been forgotten.   Israel was admonished by the Lord to teach their children His Word, so that they may follow His precepts.  A generation of people had not been taught God's Law, and because of this was not keeping His precepts or walking in the covenant the Lord had made with their fathers.

For the next generation to know the Word of the Lord they must be taught it!  Unfortunately too many of today's adults and leaders don't know the Word of God to teach their children.  This is a generation flooded with everything from psychology and sociology to pornography and lasciviousness.  Yet the Word of God has been forsaken by so many.  Let us teach our children the Word of God, and let us teach them by our deeds as well as our voice.  Let the two correspond to one another, and not contradict each other.  We cannot take for granted that the next generation will know and live by the Word of God.  They must be taught, so that the Word is not forgotten by them!
