"Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver:" 1 Chronicles 29:3

David's affection was set on God, as a matter of fact, God describes David as "a man after my own heart".  So for David to give to the building of the House of God was no big deal.  Jesus said, "Wherever your treasure is there shall your heart be also."  We will find like David did; wherever we have placed our affection, is where we will place our resources.  Our time, energy, and finances will find their way to that which we love most.  If God is where our affection lies, we will have no problem spending time with Him and serving Him.  Completing His purpose for our lives will come to pass, for we will always be seeking Him out.  Take a moment to examine your life.  Where is your heart?  What takes most, of your time, energy, and finances?  What are you pouring yourself into?  Dare today to put your affections on the One who put His on you!
