"Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever. But now the LORD says: Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed." 1 Samuel 2:30

The Priesthood was given to the family of Aaron, but God proclaimed a day would come when it would be taken from Aaron's decedents. Eli had not taken care of the priesthood, he allowed his sons to bring shame to the things of God. God would take a new priesthood to Himself, one that would bring honor and glory to His name.

When Jesus Christ came, a new priesthood was established. Jesus became the High Priest for all of God's Children. He is our representative in Heaven who makes intercession for us. Jesus brought glory and honor to God. The old has now vanished and a new and better priesthood has been established forever. Jesus has cleansed us from our sins, He has made us whole and acceptable before the Lord. Because of our High Priest we stand in righteousness before God.

"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:14-15
