Covenant Redeemer...
"And he said, Who are you? So she answered, I am Ruth, your maidservant. Take your maidservant under your wing, for you are a close relative." Ruth 3:9
Ruth was a widow women, from a foreign country with nothing to offer. She went to Boaz hoping he would take her in. Boaz was an honorable man and did not take advantage of Ruth, but was diligent to take the best care of her. Boaz took the needed steps to redeem Ruth to himself. Ruth came to Boaz with nothing; she was joined to him in marriage and got to share in all that he had. Ruth went from "rags to riches" overnight by the grace shown to her by Boaz.
As Boaz was Ruth's covenant redeemer, so Christ is ours. Jesus redeems us from the curse of the Law, and brings us into a New Covenant. This covenant is not one we had anything to do with; it is a covenant between to Father and Son. We humbly come to Jesus with nothing to offer, and we surrender ourselves to Him as Ruth did to Boaz. Jesus takes us into this New Covenant through faith. We don't deserve it and can do nothing to earn it, but we receive it by Grace. At this point we are like Ruth who went from "rags to riches" overnight. When Jesus takes us in we become joint heirs with Him. The Bible goes so far as to say, that we are seated in heavenly places with Him. Jesus takes our messed-up lives that have nothing to offer, and gives us the riches of His saving grace! Jesus freely gives us all that is His! In Jesus we have a Covenant Redeemer who has brought us out of darkness into His marvelous light!
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God," Ephesians 2:8
