Reaping...

"God sent a spirit of ill will between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech, that the crime done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might be settled and their blood be laid on Abimelech their brother, who killed them, and on the men of Shechem, who aided him in the killing of his brothers." Judges 9:23-24

Abimelech was the son of Gideon. Abimelech had seventy brothers, and he had a desire to rule over Israel. Abimelech decided to kill all of his brothers to make sure that none of them would interfere with him ruling over Israel. He succeeded in killing them all but one, the youngest escaped. After ruling for three years the evil he sowed when murdering his brothers was brought back around to him as the men of Shechem turned on him. Abimelech would now fight to destroy the men of Shechem, and they would fight against him; both would come face to face with destruction. Abimelech sowed evil and death, and in due season he reaped the same.

It took three years for Abimelech to reap the evil he had sown. He probably gave it no thought, sense nothing happened right away. But, it is a certainty in life; we will always reap what we sow. When a seed is planted it doesn't produce a seedling right away, but it does come; the seedling begins to mature, and eventually it will produce a product after its kind. If you plant oranges don't expect apples. If you have sown seeds of righteousness you can and should expect to see them come back your way, in their appointed season. The same is true for seed of evil that are planted, they will grow up, and they will produce evil fruit. Know this, if you have planted good seeds, seeds of righteousness and you haven't seen the fruit yet, don't grow weary. Everything produces after it kind and in its appointed season. If you have sown seed of righteousness get ready, because that is the fruit that is going to show up in your life!

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Galatians 6:9
