"Then He told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed." Matthew 13:3 

Jesus tells a story about a farmer going out and sowing seed. As the farmer sowed some of the seed fell along the path and the birds of the air quickly came down and ate the seed. Some seed fell on rocky places where there was not much soil, and the seed grew up quickly but because the seed was unable to take root because of the shallow soil when the sun came up the plant withered away. Some of the seed fell among thorns and it grew but unfortunately it was choked out by the thorns. Finally some of the seed fell on good ground, and this seed produced much fruit.

A lesson we learn from this parable is that all seed will not fall on good ground, and even though this is a truth we are still to sow it. The seed here is the word of God. We are to sow God's word into the lives of all we come across. Not all the seed we plant will be successful, as a matter of fact if we compare our sowing to that of the farmer in the parable it would seem that most of the seed sown will not fall on good ground and produce fruit. Though this may be true it is not our job to pick and choose, it is our job to plant the seed. I encourage you to plant the seed of God's word into someone's life today and every day. Don't let a day go by in which you do not share the word with someone. Don't get discouraged by focusing on the seed you plant that does not grow up and produce fruit, concentrate on the seed that does. Sow the word today, who knows you may be sowing into the next Billy Graham!
