Excellent Companionship...
"lest they teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their gods, and you sin against the LORD your God." Deuteronomy 20:18
The Israelites are reminded that when they came into the land God was giving them they were to kill off all the inhabitants of the Land. It seems kind of harsh and leaves many wondering why, but God knew that these societies were so corrupt that if left there they would infect the children of Israel with their pagan ways. It is unfortunate that Israel did not heed God's command and get rid of all the inhabitants of the Land, for they were corrupted and led astray, and because of this they missed out on so many of the blessing God desired to shower upon them.
If we are going to come into all God has for us we must be careful about who we hang around. We are without a doubt to go to all the world, this means even the worst of sinners, but we go with a mission to share the Gospel, not to just to hang out with them, and pal-around. The Bible reminds us that bad company will corrupt good character. You can't soar with the eagle if you're hanging with the turkeys! We must have like minded friends, who desire to grow and develop into all God has called them to be. We should develop relationships with those people who bring the best out of us, and who we in turn can bring the best out of. Iron sharpens iron, so get around people who will keep you sharp; ready to receive all God has for you!
"He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed." Proverbs 13:20
