Standing In The Gap...

"Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." Numbers 16:47-48

It happened as Israel traveled through the wilderness that a certain group of men from the congregation stood up to oppose Moses and Aaron. The rebellion was short lived as God put an end to it by killing all the men involved. After this the children of Israel began to grumble and complain against Moses and Aaron, this greatly angered God, so much so that He was going to destroy the entire congregation. Moses commanded Aaron to get incense and make atonement for the people. In doing so Aaron was standing between God and the congregation making intercession for them.

As Aaron stood in the gap for the congregation of Israel we too are able to stand in the gap for others. We who have a relationship with the Lord are able to stand in the gap interceding for others. Our prayers are sweet incense that go up to God. The Bible declares that the born again believer is a priest of God, and as a priest we have the capability of interceding with God on the behalf of others. Know today that you have the power to intercede for the lost, and for your brothers and sisters in Christ who are afflicted. Your prayers are powerful, and when they are offered up for others you can expect great things to happen in their lives!

"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,"

1 Timothy 2:1
