Joshua-Jesus...
"These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua." Numbers 13:16
Joshua was the servant of Moses and also one the spies that were sent out to scout the land God was going to give to Israel. Before Joshua was called Joshua, he was called Oshea. Moses gave him the name Joshua meaning "God-Saves". Joshua would eventually be the one who led the children of Israel out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land, bringing them into God's salvation.
Joshua was a picture of Jesus. Like Joshua, Jesus had the mission to save His people, and not just the Jewish people but all mankind. As Joshua led the children of Israel out of the wilderness and into the Land of Promise, Jesus leads all who call on Him out of the "wilderness of sin" and into the promise of God's salvation. Both were deliverers; one for a certain group, and the other for the entire world. Jesus came to save the world, and He is still doing it today! Tell someone today about the Savior of the world! Let them know there is hope for all who follow Jesus! Many still roam the "wilderness of sin" without hope. Let us who have been redeemed point them to Jesus, that they too may enter the Promised Land with us!
"For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."
John 3:17
