Forgetting...
"Then God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and blessed him. And God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.' So He called his name Israel." Genesis 35:9-10
Before Jacob made it back home God had renamed him Israel. Jacob had experienced the greatness of God. Now settled into life back home Jacob forgets about his new identity in God. God calls Jacob to go back to Bethel where God first revealed Himself. It would be there that God would reaffirm his new identity, and assure him of the covenant he was making with him.
As born again believers in Christ, we like Jacob have received a new identity. The Bible tells us the old things have passed away, and the new things have come. Yet, also like Jacob we often forget who we now are. We forget that we have been made a new creation in Christ. We are no longer some poor pathetic sinner, who is at the mercy of this world. NO! We have become the very righteousness of God! We have become MORE than conquerors! We are overcomers, who have received authority from Christ! We are now living in the blessing of God, as goodness in mercy follows us everywhere we go! Let us never forget who God has made us! We have been given power and authority to do all God has called us to do in this world! Live this day and everyday as child of the King you are!
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12-13
