"When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the temple of Dagon and set it by Dagon. And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again." 1 Samuel 5:2-3

The Philistines had defeated Israel and taken the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark was where the presence of God rested in old times. When the Philistines captured it they put it in the temple of their god Dagon. They thought to show up the God of Israel by placing the Ark in the temple of Dagon. The Philistines quickly found out there was no god like the God of Israel, and there would be no god before Him.

The bible is clear there is but one God, He is the Lord. No god shall stand before the Lord; He will be second to none. This is to be the truth of our life and relationship with the Lord. God desires to be first in our lives, and should never take a second seat to anything. Without our relationship with the Lord we would have nothing. Our relationship with the Lord should be the first and most important thing in our life. Make no god to put in front of the Lord, allow Him to be first. It should be evident that our Lord is seated above everything else in our life. When we take into account all the mercies of the Lord, putting Him first does not seem like an unreasonable idea.
