"And Abraham said, Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife. But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife." Genesis 20:11-12

While in Gerar Abraham and Sarah found themselves in a very sticky situation. Because of fear of the people of Gerar Abraham did not reveal that Sarah was his wife. Thinking Sarah was only Abraham's sister, Abimelech the king of Gerar took her with the intentions of making her one of his wives. God had to intervene to save Sarah from a terrible fate. God rescued Abraham and Sarah out of a situation they should never have been in.

When Abimelech confronts Abraham about not telling the truth concerning his relationship with Sarah, Abraham justifies himself by saying that she truly is his sister, but only his half sister. Abraham told what we might call a "half truth". While it was true she was his sister, he left out the part where she was also his wife. "Half truths" can be more dangerous than lies, and they are a favorite weapon of the enemy. Satan often uses "half truths" to pervert the Word of God. Beware "half truths"! Know God's Word and live by all of it, and not only "half" of it. Refuse to twist the scripture, turning them into "half truths". Don't use "half truths" and don't believe the devil when he tries to use them on you! Know the WORD!
