Greetings!
On behalf of The Board of Commissioners, staff and volunteers, we publish our biweekly newsletter about the plans, opportunities, events and activities of the BioDistrict. Through this newsletter we hope to help the community understand the vast potential of our organized and sustained efforts to build the district, and the plans it holds for our local economy.
The past two weeks we have really ramped up the interaction with HIMSS as they prepared to come to New Orleans. HIMSS sent representatives in advance of the convention to host a training sessions for New Orleanians. This was well received by 86 people and 4 have found new jobs since then! Additionally, they opened the Career Services Institute to locals. It is sold out with over 400 people accepting this offer! During the convention, I will use this opportunity to promote our assets, highlight our workforce and promote our tax credits. This week is about proving that New Orleans is a great place to do business, to live and to work!
The BioDistrict provides strategic programming critical to the preparation and later expansion of the range of opportunities for all New Orleanians; which we can see from the massive public-private investments being made.
Be an eyewitness to $2 Billion of construction. Nearly 7,700 construction workers will be on site for two more years!
 | MORE CRANES IN THE SKY THAN ANY TIME IN OUR HISTORY |
We ask for your continued support as we work to attract thousands of new high paying sustainable jobs, better healthcare outcomes, new capital investments and new educational opportunities -- all within a sustainably built environment. Building the ecosystem necessary to support this industry is difficult but critical work and will be the reason we succeed as a community.
Please share this newsletter with a friend, colleague or loved one looking for positive news about the future of New Orleans as the center of Southeast Louisiana's Super-Region and the emergence of a fourth pillar to our economy.
Sincerely, BioDistrict New Orleans James P. McNamara President & CEO |

Raising the Bar: Innovative Healthcare Program Fosters Collaboration, Education

BioDistrict launches new webcast series bringing international exposure to the strengths of BioDistrict based research at our member institutions and partners with the goal of attracting new sources of funding and collaboration.
First up was Dr. Anjum Khurshid, Director of the Greater New Orleans Health Information Exchange (GNOHIE) the nation's first HIE. Dr. Khurshid provided an overview and explanation of the Crescent City Beacon Council (CCBC). The series is designed to bring international exposure to the strengths of BioDistrict based research at our member institutions.
Improving patient care remains a top priority for America's healthcare organizations, but for one New Orleans institution, that bar wasn't high enough. Last year, the Louisiana Public Health Institute embarked on a comprehensive program, called the Crescent City Beacon Community (CCBC), to improve the overall health of the greater New Orleans community. Still in the early stages, the project has already received national recognition for excellence, and is being considered as a model for other major urban centers throughout the country.
LPHI's director, Dr. Anjum Khurshid explained the component parts of CCBC which is the Greater New Orleans Health Information Exchange (GNOHIE). Inspired by the Affordable Care Act, HIE'S
are intended to foster collaboration among and between various health care institutions by providing access to electronic medical records. HIE's can greatly improve patient care, while also lowering costs, in part by reducing preventable emergency room visits.
Sponsored by the BioDistrict New Orleans, this webcast is the first in a series designed to showcase the exemplary projects taking place within the district. It is part of our goal to reach an international audience of investors, researchers, biopharmaceutical executives on the exciting work in New Orleans. This webcast is archived and can be accessed by the links below.
