20 Years of St. Anne's School Stories: An Oral History Project
Examining primary sources

In honor of our 20th anniversary, our Eighth Grade class has delved into an oral history project. They'll be chronicling the life of the our school. through the stories of the people who founded the school and worked to make St. Anne's School what it is today.

The class kicked of their project last month during a day-long workshop with Dr. Rachel Seidman, Associate Director of the Southern Oral History Program at the University of North Carolina, and Felice Belman, Editor-in-Chief of the Concord Monitor.

Oral History Interview with Lisa Nagel
Oral History Interview with
Lisa Nagel
Throughout the day, students sifted through boxes and boxes of St. Anne's School archives, which included newspaper clippings, VHS tapes, photographs and other "artifacts." Our guests led the students in a discussion about evaluating these primary sources and how they may be able to find out more about the people and stories that have been a part of St. Anne's School over the years.

Next, our students set out to hone their interviewing skills, as they will be collecting stories from teachers, parents, founders and alumni as part of their project. Their first interviewee was Ms. Nagel, and she was asked, among other things, to recall her first time at St. Anne's School over 15 years ago.
Eighth Graders visit St. Anne's Church with Fran Lukens, our founding
Head of School

Since March, the students have continued to learn more about the school's history through the primary sources contained in our archives, as well as by visiting some important people and places to
St. Anne's School history. This past week, they visited with Fran Lukens, our founding Head of School, and she gave them a tour of St. Anne's Church and Parish House, where St. Anne's Nursey and Kindergarten was established over 20 years ago.

Our Second Grade students were treated to a special Skype session with a Chinese businessman who oversees a factory. (The students were delighted to find out this factory produces toys!) We'd like to thank all of the parents and teachers in our community who helped spread the word about our Leading Edge Education Summit earlier this month! We were able to bring lots of new faces to our campus and, through our speakers, share our values and philosophy at St. Anne's School.

As we gear up for the end of year and a busy summer, this is also a great time to re-up your PEP efforts. Through the end of the school year, the Admissions Office continues to Walk In Wednesday Open Houses at 9 a.m. - send a friend!

Later this week, we'll be sharing more about specific ways you can join our PEP efforts and help spread about our wonderful school!
Stay tuned!
