How the CIHA Program Came to Be - by course lead instructor Nick Jacobs, FACHE
|
After over twenty years in healthcare administration and literally dozens of presentations at major conferences on the power of integrative medicine, the obvious questions continued to surface. How can integrative medicine ever get any traction without both adequate reimbursement and a legitimate, achievable credential for the decision makers, the executives responsible for both resource allocation and resource generation? My term as an officer on the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine evolved into a similar position on the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine, but the problems and the challenges remained the same.

#AHMAconnect: 2014 Conference Recap
|
Last month, 300+ integrative and holistic practitioners and supporters gathered in Minneapolis for the 2014 National AHMA Conference, Connection & Collaboration: Innovations in Patient-Centered Care. Speakers shared their knowledge, attendees made connections with like-minded practitioners and everyone joined together to celebrate AHMA's past and future.
At the Annual AHMA Member Meeting, the Membership unanimously voted to move forward and merge with ABIHM to form the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine. Current members of AHMA are now charter members of the Academy!I LOVED the conference! In fact I feel it was one of the best that I have ever attended. From beginning to end the holistic approach was weaved throughout, I came away feeling so inspired and hopeful! As someone mentioned, I feel I have found my tribe and am thrilled to have found like-minded individuals that want to see and work towards advancing healthcare in the holistic direction. - Peggy Stewart, NP |

This conference was a collective love letter to the AHMA
by Molly Roberts, MD
The theme of this year's AHMA conference was Connection and Collaboration, and it more than lived up to its potential. Let me put that another way - you more than lived up to your potential! This conference was a collective love letter to the AHMA, a thank-you to all that this organization has been and a celebration of all that it is about to become. What an amazing group of people!

Executive Director's Letter

Transitions, service and WIFM
by Steve Cadwell
Why do people do stuff? Sometime before I attended college, marketing experts studied all the variables in how we make choices, identified the essence of an answer and reduced it to a helpful acronym: WIFM. Pronounced whiff-ehm.
From a marketing perspective, employing WIFM leads to a reasonable conclusion: people do things to get stuff. Here, if we ask people why they join a membership association, we might expect a uniform answer, to get stuff, like benefits and things they can use to advance their practice and improve their business, take advantage of discounts, get a complimentary journal subscription and access to continuing education.

President's Farewell
|
by Molly Roberts, MD
I write with deep gratitude for the privilege of being your AHMA President for these last three years. As an AHMA member since 1995 and on the Board of Directors since 2007, I have watched it go through both great challenges and great successes. You were here, too, and we traversed this path together. You and I both realized that the AHMA has a message and a philosophy that deserved to be nurtured and touted. And now, our nurturance is about to bear fruit in a beautiful way. Read more

You know why you joined AHMA. You know why you practice medicine as you do. More and more, people - your patients - are looking for the integrative, holistic approach to managing their health. At each AHMA retreat, we realize that you, as well as each member, need one another to remain whole, healthy, and able to help others. AHMA doesn't have chapters in every state, however, we want to help you connect with like-minded professionals whenever and wherever possible. So please, help us help you. If you want to start a chapter in your area, please contact Steve Cadwell; bookmark our calendar and check it often to find helpful events and opportunities to earn CMEs or other applicable education credits. To place events on our calendar that others might benefit from, send an email to Claudia. Thanks for helping us connect you with other members!
