President's Letter
AHMA President Molly Roberts, MD, featured on
The Integrator Blog

Molly Roberts
Molly Roberts, MD: On the Mending of the Town-Gown Split in Integrative Medicine and the Holistic Medical Association's Role in I.M.

It seems that for many years, there had been a focus on how each Integrative Medicine organization was different and unique from each other, and I do believe that this was a necessary part of our field's evolution. This is actually a very common phase in any group's evolution and is to be expected during the growth of a new way of thinking. However, being separate and unique also diminishes our collective strength. We each do better individually when our profession as a whole is healthy and strong.

Working together for the common good resonates with our holistic proclivities and the time is right to do so. There is a real movement afoot for us each to recognize how much we agree on instead of focusing on those smaller areas where we differ.

A message from our friends at ICIM
ICIM logo
"Yin/Yang: The Marriage between Conventional and Innovative Medicine": What's in a name?

What we mean by yin/yang is that we strive to create balance in all things. As integrative doctors we see both sides of the coin, the allopathic training we were given in medical school as well as innovative new ideas that we seek out to help our patients. Another point well taken is that this "marriage" between mindsets is a very uneasy partnership. Perhaps these two parties should get a divorce. Our title is a bit tongue in cheek. It is meant to stimulate thought, to challenge ourselves as well as society as a whole.

Nothing happens by accident, or so I continue to discover by experience. Take for example the lineup of speakers for AHMA's 2013 integrative Gateway Medical Conference in St. Louis. Have you seen the presenters? They include AHMA President Molly Roberts, AHMA past presidents Hal Blatman and Alan Gaby and 17 other highly respected presenters. AHMA's pre-conference retreat will be the fourth in The Healer Within series: Shamanic Breathwork,™ led by Molly and Nita Gage. What an outstanding assortment of talented presenters!

Holistic

Medicine

And You Need Each Other

AHMA_Logo

You know why you joined AHMA. You know why you practice medicine as you do. More and more, people - your patients - are looking for the integrative, holistic approach to managing their health. We realized (again) at last year's retreat, The Healer Within, that you, as well as each member, need one another to remain whole, healthy, and able to help others.

AHMA doesn't have chapters in every state, however, we want to help you connect with like-minded professionals whenever and wherever possible. So please, help us help you. If you want to start a chapter in your area, please contact Steve Cadwell; bookmark our calendar and check it often to find helpful events and opportunities to earn CMEs or other applicable education credits. To place events on our calendar that others might benefit from, send an email to Claudia.  Thanks for helping us connect you with other members!
