"The Resilient Healer" Retreat
March 1 - 3The Resilient Healer

A Personal and Professional Renewal Experience for

     the Inner Life of Healers

Plan to attend this Minneapolis retreat led by Henry Emmons, MD, author of the nationally acclaimed  The Chemistry of Joy

In this 3-day retreat, Dr. Emmons will share his approach to building a practice that is rejuvenating for the provider while creating a model for how we care for our patients.

Join us to explore your own path to resilience. This retreat will include principles of functional and holistic nutrition to maintain a healthy mind, mindfulness-based spiritual practices and more.

Dr. Emmons will use stories, personal reflections and discussion in small and large groups to look at what makes the inner lives of healers uniquely life-giving. The workshop will feature discussions on the core factors in resilience, their scientific basis and how they can help one achieve greater vitality, equanimity, openness and connection.

ABIHM Diplomates & AHMA Members
When we attended the ABIHM Review Course in San Diego last month, we experienced a common question; "What is the difference between an ABIHM diplomate and an AHMA member?"

The ABIHM and the AHMA
are, simply put, "sister organizations" or "born from the same parents." AHMA was founded in 1978 and then 20 years later, AHMA members founded the ABIHM.

ABIHM offers board certification for holistic physicians and AHMA is the membership association for holistic practitioners.
Both organizations work toward the same goal: to transform healthcare into a sustainable holistic / integrative model focused on wellness and prevention.

President's Letter
A successful week at ABIHM's 13th Annual Review Course
by Molly Roberts, MD

Molly Roberts
I am deeply gratified by the enthusiasm, openheartedness, and overall good feelings that were felt by all during the weeklong conference last month in San Diego, The Science and Clinical Application of Integrative Holistic Medicine. This was truly a phenomenal week. We learned about the latest research in Integrative Medicine from leaders in the field while at the same time recognizing the deep value of the heart in the healing process. We communed with our AHMA compatriots at our Annual Meeting and honored our common roots and deep fellowship with the ABIHM. We also saw a high number of MDs and DOs sit for the ABIHM Board Exam. Good luck!

79 New Members
What happened? What's next?
by Steve Cadwell

Welcome new members! A diverse group of 79 practitioners joined the AHMA family while attending ABIHM's 13th annual review course, in San Diego. A busy week for all, many new AHMAers then sat for the Nov. 2 ABIHM Board exam or attended AHMA's retreat, "Rediscovering the Spirit of Healthcare," that same day. A few actually did both, i.e., take the exam and join fellow retreaters upon completion. We are happy so many holistic practitioners expanded their skills and knowledge, worked toward Board certification, attended a transformational retreat and connected with AHMA through membership. Medicine

And You Need Each Other

AHMA_Logo

You know why you joined AHMA. You know why you practice medicine as you do. More and more, people - your patients - are looking for the integrative, holistic approach to managing their health. We realized (again) at last year's retreat, The Healer Within, that you, as well as each member, need one another to remain whole, healthy, and able to help others.

AHMA doesn't have chapters in every state, however, we want to help you connect with like-minded professionals whenever and wherever possible. So please, help us help you. If you want to start a chapter in your area, please contact Steve Cadwell; bookmark our calendar and check it often to find helpful events and opportunities to earn CMEs or other applicable education credits. To place events on our calendar that others might benefit from, send an email to Claudia.  Thanks for helping us connect you with other members!
