October 2015

AURP Friends & Colleagues

As AURP's Chief Executive Officer, it has been a pleasure to work with you these past years.

Some things we've accomplished:
  • Achieved first-ever U.S. federal funding for research park initiatives
  • Established first-ever university research park employment metrics
  • Created the industry-standard AURP-Battelle report
  • Developed Research Parks 101 and Creating Communities of Innovation into industry best practices
  • Developed Special Project Advising for research parks, universities and communities
  • Collaborated with the National Academies of Sciences to convene the first-ever NAS research and science park symposium, with subsequent book
  • Nurtured AURP into today's strong and healthy association as so many other associations withered, dissolved or changed dramatically in the post-2007 environment of intense pressure on state and university budgets
Thank you for your partnership and counsel. Let's celebrate the twelve new EDA-funded park projects now underway and continue to work to make the world a better place.

Blessings to you.

Newport News Promises 16 Acres of Land for Ion Collider Project

From the Daily Press
by Theresa Clift

If the U.S. Department of Energy chooses Jefferson Lab for a $1 billion ion collider, Newport News officially has a place to put it, Mayor McKinley Price announced during his State of the City address Tuesday.

City leaders hope its promise to donate about 16 acres of city land to the lab if needed will help Jefferson Lab win the facility over its much larger New York competitor.
