/ NORTH SAN JOS� LANDS TWO HIGH TECH COMPANIES

North San Jos� attracted two more High Tech companies to the innovation triangle. Silver Spring Networks, a smart grid network platform company, will relocate from Redwood City to 190,000 square feet at 210 and 230 W. Tasman Drive. ForeScout Technologies Inc., a leading cyber security firm, will shift its Campbell operations to 95,000 square feet at 190 W. / SUPPORT AND SHOP SMALL BUSINESSES ON NOVEMBER 28TH

National Small Business Saturday comes to San Jos and other communities on November 28, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The event hopes to encourage residents to support their local businesses and community by shopping at neighborhood stores. Small Business Saturday aligns with the "Shop San Jos� Initiative," and together they acknowledge the importance of small businesses to strengthen the local economy by fostering growth and opportunity. These initiatives help create local jobs, maintain the environment and sustain local public services when consumers purchase goods and services from area shop owners. / BENTEK ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF MANUFACTURING FACILITIES

Bentek has signed a lease for an additional 100,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space at 1991 Senter Road. The additional space will allow the company to continue its growth of AC/DC power products and services for the photo-voltaic solar and semiconductor industries. The company has grown from 100 to 240 employees over the past three years and plans to continue to increase staffing levels to meet customer needs as it expands its presence in San Jos�. 

Bentek is a homegrown San Jos company that was founded in 1985 and remains headquartered in San Jos. "Bentek is committed to manufacturing our cutting-edge products here in America," said Mitch Schoch, President and CEO of Bentek. "Keeping our manufacturing operations in San Jos ensures that we can easily collaborate with our customer's engineering, research and design teams and leverage the highly skilled workforce found in San Jos. Kartma Cafe
/ KARTMA STREET CAFE WORKING TO END HOMELESSNESS IN

Downtown San Jos's new Kartma Street Cafe is offering great coffee while working to end homelessness. 'The Kart with Heart' is a social enterprise cafe created by local nonprofit Downtown Streets Team, and pays a living wage to individuals transitioning out of homelessness while they build marketable skills and serve the best coffee in the Bay Area. The project enhances the well-being of its workers through continued personal development to permanently end their homelessness while helping change public perception towards the homeless and contributing to the revitalization of local communities by providing outdoor cafe experiences. 

Kartma started serving earlier this month launch and have an official launch and ribbon cutting ceremony on November 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Find Kartma at the corner of Market St. and Santa Clara St. in Downtown San Jos serving delicious coffee & ending homelessness from Monday - Friday 8am-1pm. Alum Rock Business Association
/ ALUM ROCK SANTA CLARA STREET BUSINESS ASSOCIATION FORM

On October 9, 2015 over 100 businesses along Alum Rock Avenue from Interstate 680 on the east and South 22nd Street on the west voted to form in to the Alum Rock Santa Clara Street Business Association. Their common interest is to "work together with the City of San Jos, the County of Santa Clara and other organizations to advance the the economic well-being of the business community..."  The association has elected interim board members with Jesus Flores as the President.  The new business association with support from Councilmember Carrasco's office will be launching a marketing campaign funded by the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) as part of the VTA's Bus Rapid Transit project under construction along the Alum Rock/East Santa Clara Corridor.  For more information contact Sal Alvarez

/ NEW PROGRAM TRAINS WORKERS FOR HIGH TECH MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

In support of the Mayor's Manufacturing Initiative, work2future recently launched new training programs for project managers and certified production technicians. Designed with employer input and leading to nationally-recognized certifications, the courses are taught at San Jos� State University, San Jos�-Evergreen Community College District, and Foothill-De Anza Community College District. The participants have been pre-screened for experience, aptitude and work ethic to learn new concepts and industries quickly. Project management topics include scheduling, cost management, communication and problem-solving. Previous graduates of similar courses have gone on to work at Silicon Valley employers such as Flex and Bentek.

Bass Pro Shops, one of the nation's leading outdoor retailers, celebrated the opening of its latest store located at Almaden Ranch in San Jos� October 28, 2014. The 140,000 square foot store will seek to draw customers from up to 100 miles away, and create over 400 new jobs in the area. Known as a destination retailer, the San Jos store is the first for Bass Pro in the Bay Area and offers something for everyone, including equipment for a wide range of outdoor adventures, Uncle Buck's Fishbowl and Grill, and twelve bowling lanes.  "We're very excited to welcome Bass Pro to San Jose," said Nanci Klein, Assistant Director of the Office of Economic Development. CITY UNDERTAKES REVIEW OF GENERAL PLAN

Second meeting: December 16th at 6:00 p.m. - San Jose City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jos�, in Wing Rooms 118-120.

The San Jos�'s General Plan, Envision 2040 was finalized in 2011 and is now due for a checkup. Built into the plan is a four-year review cycle that allows for evaluation of progress on goals and the setting of mid-course adjustments, using current data for anticipated growth in population and jobs. This work will be done through a series of six public meetings of the Envision San Jos� 2040 Task Force, and then concluded by the City Council. The first kick-off meeting occurred on Monday, November 16, 2015.  The second meeting is scheduled for December 16, 2015 at 6:00 pm at San Jos City Hall .
