/ ASIANS FORECAST TO INCREASE FROM 33% TO 44% OF SAN JOSE/SANTA CLARA COUNTY RESIDENTS BY 2040

A new forecast commissioned by San Jose's Office of Economic Development from the University of Southern California predicts the Asian population will increase in San Jose/Santa Clara County from 33% in 2010 to 44% by 2040. The proportion of foreign-born residents from Asia in San Jose/Santa Clara County is projected to grow from 58% to 65% by 2030. The overall foreign-born population in the County is expected to grow from 38% to 40% by 2030, outpacing both the levels in California (27%) and the nation (16%). "Foreign-born residents play an important role in San Jose and Santa Clara County and will continue to do so in the coming decades," said Kim Walesh, Director of Economic Development for San Jose. "These are a highly educated and talented people who have global connections." Nearly half (49%) of the foreign-born population in San Jose/Santa Clara County hold a bachelor's degree or higher according to 2013 US Census data, which is higher than the County average (37%). / SJ RANKED #1 FOR STRONGEST CONCENTRATION OF TECH HORSEPOWER IN NATION

In the recent Forbes' study, The Valley and the Upstarts: The Cities Creating the Most Tech Jobs, San Jose's Metropolitan Area is ranked first for having the strongest concentration of tech horsepower in the nation. The study looked at cities with the highest per capita concentration of people in engineering professions and found San Jose Metro's share of STEM workers is 15.5% of its total workforce, three times the 5.0% proportion in the overall US population. In addition, Forbes noted the area's tech industry is responsible for 14.1% of all jobs, almost five times the national average of 2.9%. Both figures are easily the highest in the nation and ahead of San Francisco, where 8.7% of workers hold STEM-related jobs and 7.6% are in the tech industry. To read the full study, click here. Jabil Circuit Inc., a global high-tech manufacturer, will celebrate the opening of Blue Sky, a new 100,000 square foot Customer Engagement and Innovation Center at 6375 San Ignacio Avenue in South San Jose on April 30, 2015. The space, owned by the Sobrato Organization, is near Jabil's 180,000 square feet manufacturing space at 30 Great Oaks Blvd. Headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, Jabil serves a wide range of high-tech customers throughout the world, with over 90 locations in 24 countries. Jabil has had a strong presence in San Jose since 1983 and currently employs about 800 people in the City. AFK Gamer Lounge, a hybrid video game arcade and bar, opened in March 2015 in the 15,000 square foot space at 163 W. Santa Clara Street, Downtown San Jose. AFK Gamer Lounge said, "...it's a place to meet, compete and enjoy all things related to eSports, a place is for the gaming community-specifically for gamers to come out of their houses and be in a real-world social environment to play the games they love, while also enjoying delicious craft cocktails and amazing food." Those 21 years old and up can be "gaming" with a beer in hand. The space provides both public and private areas to game casually or in private rooms on teams. According to AFK Gamer Lounge, "Visitors will enjoy 100 gaming PCs networked together and online with the most popular games installed and ready to play." In addition, The Ritz Nightclub opened in April, at 400 First Street, taking over a critical vacant corner on S. 1st Street, which was the original home of the Blank Club.
