#sjplace

Uber, the popular ride-sharing start-up, recently announced its first-ever public acquisition - Downtown-based deCarta, a San Jose firm founded in 1996 that develops software focused on location-based features, including mapping, local search, and turn-by-turn navigation. Uber acquired deCarta's technology and talent - 30 of 40 employees will remain with the company, including deCarta CEO and President Kim Fennell. deCarta will continue to operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Uber, but will still use its own name. Also recently announced, software developer Apigee, one of San Jose's fastest-growing tech companies that moved Downtown from Palo Alto last year, filed Friday for an initial public offering. Apigee is touted by Deloitte as a top-five company in North American among technology, media, telecommunications, life-sciences and clean-technology firms. Apigee posted nearly 7,400 percent revenue growth from 2009 to 2014. Congratulations to both deCarta and Apigee on your success!  For information about moving your firm to San Jose, contact  Chris Burton, Senior Business Development Manager.

MOVES FROM MOUNTAIN VIEW TO CAPTURE SAN JOSE'S TECH VIBE AND GROW
#sjeducates

Computer programming boot camp Coding Dojo has recently relocated from  Mountain View to North San Jose into a 6,800 sq. ft. space on Zanker Road. The new San Jose office is a larger, more modern space, and according to Coding Dojo's CEO Richard Wang, "We feel San Jose is the next big tech hub.... It's great space for us - it's open, very techish." Wang commented that they would like to find a second space in San Jose within the next couple of months. Coding Dojo's boot camps are 50 to 70 hours a week, with 25 to 35 students per 12-week cohort, with nine cohorts a year. What makes their program unique is it teaches JavaScript, PHP, Ruby on Rails, and three full stacks in 12 weeks. "Technology changes all the time," Wang said. "We are committed to train our students to be self-sufficient engineers - learning how to pick up new languages." Welcome to San Jose, Coding Dojo! For information about how to find your place in San Jose, contact  Chris Burton, Senior Business Development Manager.

INNOVATION

/ OFFICIAL UNVEILING OF CONNECTED VEHICLE LAB RESOURCES AT PROSPECT SV

#sjinvents

Prospect Silicon Valley (SV) will present two, first-of-its-kind, laboratory environments at its

Demonstration Center

on Thursday, April 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first is an open platform Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) signal laboratory for developing and demonstrating Connected Vehicle applications. Supported by Cisco, Renesas, Savari and the City of San Jose, innovators can develop, test and demonstrate Connected Vehicle applications in a Driver Simulation and Vehicle Systems Lab (SimLab) used to evaluate in-vehicle systems and measure driver behavior. The second is the SimLab, which is a unique partnership of Prospect SV and Aachen University, from Germany. Advanced V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) services and V2I (Vehicle-to-Infrastructure) services have the potential to dramatically reduce traffic-related accidents, increase transit efficiency, enable real-time traffic management and improve fuel efficiency.  To register for the event, click here, or contact Doug Davenport, Executive Director of Prospect SV.

DOWNTOWN
/ POP-UP KEEPS POPPING -UP DOWNTOWN
#sjdowntown

San Jose's Pop-Up Project will continue Downtown through Spring 2015 and potentially beyond. The Pop-Up shops, including the shipping containers, add a vibrant and local flair Downtown by occupying underutilized indoor and outdoor spaces. The spaces continue to be activated, with a majority of pop-up retailers keeping their doors open beyond the first phase.  There has also been a few new businesses, such as Franci Cakes and Bunky Bows in the nearby Hammer Theater lobby. The shipping containers have also attracted cool, urban groups such as The RookSF (a coworking space) and First Article to 'pop-up' and curate the containers on a temporary basis. "The Pop-Up Project is creative, engaging and fun," said Kim Walesh, Director of Economic Development for San Jose. "The shops offer unique items and are a great way to  bring people Downtown to support our local small business community." For more information, click here, or contact Tina Kapoor, Downtown Coordinator.

#northsj

The Trammell Crow Co. has recently started moving dirt on a 56-acre development in North San Jose. The company acquired the land from Cisco Systems in 2013 and is developing nearly 600,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and  400,000 square feet of office R&D. The development would accommodate "...third-party manufacturing contractors for companies like the Apples and Googles of the world," said John Greer, principal and head of Trammell Crow Co.'s Northern California business unit. The development is located near Highway 237. For more information, contact Chris Burton, Senior Business Development Manager.
