/ MANUFACTURING WEEK KICKS OFF IN SAN JOSE

Manufacturing Week 2014 comes to San Jose September 29 through October 3 with a series of facility tours, open houses, and panel discussions about careers in manufacturing in an effort to raise awareness about the industry's rapid growth in the region. Today, Santa Clara County represents 10 percent of all high-tech manufacturing jobs nationwide and is home to 9 out of 10 world's largest electronic manufacturing service companies. The week of activities is sponsored by the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Roundtable and San Jose's Office of Economic Development. / PROSPECT SILICON VALLEY OPENS OCTOBER 2

Prospect Silicon Valley's (ProspectSV) eagerly awaited Grand Opening will take place October 2, 2014 at San Jose's Environmental Innovation Center. ProspectSV will occupy 22,500 square feet and provide a facility for companies to develop, demonstrate and launch new technology into the market. Companies that contract with ProspectSV will also be able to use the center's state-of-the-art labs, vehicle lift and shop equipment. The North San Jose Real Estate Tour, sponsored by San Jose's Office of Economic Development and hosted by Mayor Chuck Reed will highlight development and area investments, like Renovation Row's string of recent activity with Verizon, ProteinSimple and Vander-Bend Manufacturing moving into older properties that investors bought and rehabbed. "North San Jose's transformation to an active, modern, live-work innovation district is well underway," said Kim Walesh, San Jose's Economic Development Director and Chief Strategist. / BOLLYWOOD EVENTS ACTIVATE PARKS - CELEBRATE COMMUNITY #sjdowntown
Two free Bollywood-style events will debut in Downtown the weekend of September 27-28 to help activate our parks and public spaces and celebrate the Indian-American community and culture in San Jose/Silicon Valley. Bollywood Bhangra Dance Party will kick off on Saturday, September 27 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park and feature Bhangra-style dance performances and group dance instruction. On Sunday, September 28 at 11 a.m. the San Jose Bike Party will lead a family-friendly six to eight mile bike ride around Downtown San Jose featuring the music and style of Bollywood. / DOWNTOWN REAL ESTATE TOUR SHOWCASES UPTICK AT URBAN CORE
On October 30, more than 150 brokers and developers will descend on Downtown. "From residential and retail to office, demand for space in San Jose's Downtown has experienced incredible growth in 2013," said Lee Wilcox, San Jose's Downtown Manager. "This tour allows brokers and developers to see firsthand the transformation of our city center and provides an insiders look at what's to come." / SAN JOSE REGION IS TOP IN NATION FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

According to new figures on economic growth released this week from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the San Jose metro region scored second in the nation, behind Houston, for fastest growth for economic output in 2013. The BEA reported San Jose's economic output was more than double the national average, increasing by 4.4 percent. Economic output is measured as Gross Domestic Product (GDP). IGNITE HELPS START UPS FIRE UP

The Office of Economic Development is launching the Small Business Ignite program in collaboration with Silicon Valley Talent Partnership, BusinessOwnerSpace, San Jose Downtown Association, Ernst & Young, and Hootsuite to provide training and mentoring to help Downtown small businesses succeed. Several retail businesses will participate in the kick off event on October 6, 2014. The program provides workshops on marketing, social media, and business planning for one-year with quarterly face-to-face training by industry leaders and monthly virtual sessions.
