/ SAN JOSE'S  FOREIGN TRADE ZONE EXPANDS AND STREAMLINES THE PROCESS

#sjinvests

Companies and cities in Silicon Valley can now access the Alternative Site Framework (ASF) Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) to expedite applications for eligibility. At San Jose's request, recent approval by the U.S. Department of Commerce broadened FTZ access to include San Jose, Santa Clara County, and the cities of Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Fremont, Hayward, Newark and Union City. Now, any industrial-zoned land or building in these areas is eligible to be designated as a FTZ site. The process enhances the competitiveness of businesses by deferring, reducing, or eliminating duty payments on foreign merchandise entering the Zone through a streamlined process. This process allows for non-production applications to be completed in 30 days and production-related applications to be completed in 120 days.
