/ US SATELLITE PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE TO OPEN AT CITY HALL IN DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE

The U.S.Department of Commerce  has announced plans to open a long-awaited patent office in San Jose, the world's top city for patent generation with more than 7,000 patents filed annually. The new Satellite Patent and Trademark Office will occupy 40,000 square feet in San Jose's City Hall. In selecting a location, officials wanted a locaton i anctive commercial district wth restaurants, services and transit. Michelle Lee, Silicon Valley Patent Office Director, plans to hire 60 new patent examiners and 20 hearing judges. Welcome to Downtown San Jose!

 

 
         
/ CLEANTECH CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM IN SAN JOSE
Starting with the recent launch of Prospect Silicon Valley, San Jose's cleantech demonstration center, the City continues to gain momenteum as a global leader in cleantech innovation. Last week, the Cleantech Open Global Forum took place at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center for the third consecutive year. The event determined the world's most promising cleantech startups from eight regional U.S. accelerators and 30 countries. Also last week, Zero Waste Energy Development Company's (ZWEDC) Dry Fermentation Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Facility opened it's doors as the largest commercial facility of its kind. At the facility, food scraps, yard waste and other compostable materials are converted into renewable energy. These projects move San Jose closer to achieving its Green Vision goals by 2040. November 30, 2013, is Small Business Saturday in San Jose.  This annual event provides consumers nationally with a tangible reminder to purchase locally. It gives San Jose businesses an opportunity to reconnect with customers and allows the City to acknowledge the importance of small businesses to help strengthen San Jose's economy and work to foster small business growth. / ILLUMINATING DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE

Through a $600,000 grant and numerous partnerships, San Jose Public Art Program has launched the Illuminating Downtown Project (IDP). IDP is a series of interactive lighting projects designed to enliven the downtown cityscape. Four projects are underway with the first illuminating the underside of Highway 87 at West Santa Clara and West San Fernando Streets.  The second project invites the community to contribute new light programs for a visual "jukebox" of Show Your Stripes, which is an interactive podium of light at The 88 at South 2nd.and East San Fernando. A third project is at the Axis on Santa Clara at Almaden where an enhanced lighting project will be placed on the  building to create a beacon to the downtown. The final project is a public wayfinding program that serves as an illuminated pedestrian-oriented navigation system incorporating data-mining, mobile computing, connectivity, lighting, and interaction using embedded and sensor networks. / NIMBLE STORAGE EXPANDS TO 165,000 SQFT CAMPUS IN NORTH SAN JOSE

Nimble Storage opened its doors recently at its new 165,000-square-foot campus at River Oaks Parkway. The building went through a $10 million renovation by developer Bixby Land Company. Nimble is moving from a nearby San Jose office of 55,000-square-feet with plans to increase its employee base from 225 to more than 750 people. According to Nimble Storage Chief Executive Officer Suresh Vasudevan, "The City of San Jose has supported us in our five years of growth, and this continues to be a great talent pool to successfully grow our team. / SAMSUNG'S NEW CAMPUS UNDER CONSTRUCTION WELL UNDERWAY
The new Samsung campus expansion in north San Jose is well underway and on schedule to be completed in 2015. The building is designed to be green and lush, both from an environmental standpoint, but also in terms of giving employees a feeling that they are connected to the outdoors at all times. The design plan includes a white metal, glass and terracotta exterior; a parking structure covered in a folding green-colored wall and a small park with trees and running water that is open to the public.The 10-story tower will feature two garden floors with a fitness facility and cafes and a state-of-the-art work environment to encourage greater communication among the workforce as well as attract new employees in the highly competitive tech market. / HONOR A HERO, HIRE A VET JOB FAIR

The work2future team partnered with the Employment Development Department to hold the Honor a Hero, Hire a Vet job fair recently at the San Jose Airport Garden Hotel. The event drew over 300 participants, including 130 veterans. Over 60 employers participated from a variety of sectors including IT, retail, manufacturing, food services, and nonprofits. The employers who attracted the most candidates were Intel, Tesla, and Applied Materials. work2future provided information on current City of San Jose recruitments, as well as outreach materials for its adult services and youth programs.
