Police Ask For Public's Help

Jefferson County lawmen are trying to identify a man suspected in a string of car break-ins in McCalla over the weekend.
A trail camera set up in a front yard captured one of two car burglary suspects. Deputies are asking for the public's help identifying him.

Guilty Plea Entered In Samantha Payne Murder Case

Chylli Bruce has reached a plea deal with prosecutors in the Samantha Payne capital murder case.
Prosecutors actually reached out to Bruce at the request of law enforcement because there were gaps in the information that they had leading up to Samantha Payne's death.
This deal will result in a reduction of Bruce's charge to felony murder. We're told this is how law enforcement will be able to get to the person - they believe - is most responsible for Samantha Payne's death. David Michael Belcher and Steven George were the other two suspects charged with capital murder back in November.

West Blocton Man Faces Class B Felony

A West Blocton man is facing felony drug charges after allegedly distributing marijuana March and April 2015.
Michael David Greene, 32, was arrested on Jan. 25 and charged with three counts of distribution of marijuana. According to court documents, Greene allegedly distributed marijuana from two different locations near U.S. 280 in North Shelby.

The on going saga of former Bibb County player, Danjel Purifoy, has finally reached a resolution.
The highly-touted recruit will not play this season and will sit out as a redshirt. He will play next season as a redshirt freshman, according to Auburn. The NCAA informed Auburn of Purifoy's status on Tuesday after months surrounding discussion of his ACT test scores.

A woman has been charged with smuggling drugs to her son
Richard Walls, at Bibb County Correctional Facility in January of this year.
On Jan. 10, correctional officer saw Lisa Dunaway Wright attempting to pass a
controlled substance to Richard Walls during a visitation. She was arrested and detained at the Bibb County Jail on $15,000 bond for charges of promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Montevallo Teacher Accused of Sex with Student
 MONTEVALLO, AL (WBRC) -
A Montevallo High School teacher has been arrested on sex charges involving a student.
Lawrence Lilly II, 31, is charged with school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under 19, which is a Class B felony.

Prison Reform Act - Money Saver or Bad Deal?

Now that the Alabama Prison Reform Act has taken effect some prosecutors are not pleased.
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Alabama's prison population backed lawmakers into a corner in 2015. With a costly federal takeover imminent, they had two choices: build more prisons or reduce the number of people going to prison.
The cash-strapped General Fund Budget ultimately made the decision, and the Prison Reform Act was written.

Brierfield Fire & Rescue announces the promotion of Jay Shepherd (left) to the rank of Lieutenant and JT Loyd (right) to the rank of Sergeant effective February 8, 2016.
Lt Shepherd has been with the department since 2012 and is a certified Firefighter I & II and just recently his EMT.
