Bibb County Students To Receive Health Screenings
http://www.wcbi.com/        BY ROBERT DAVIDSON · NOVEMBER 24, 2015

A $100,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant has been announced by Gov. Robert Bentley.   Grant will provide free health screenings for students in 17 Alabama counties.

The grant will help Sight Savers America, a Pelham-based nonprofit group, build on the success of KidCheck Plus, a program that screens students, diagnoses medical concerns and coordinates follow-up care. The organization expects to conduct 70 health screenings this school year at schools in Bibb, Chambers, DeKalb, Talladega, Pickens, Hale, Macon, Blount, Calhoun, Etowah, Jackson, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Marshall and Walker counties. These screenings will reach approximately 14,000 students, Sight Savers officials said.

The most common health issues detected during these events are related to BMI, vision and dental issues.

ARE TURKEY POPULATIONS IN ALABAMA DECLINING?

Click Here For Article:  by Allison Blankenship

There are new Turkey hunters in Bibb County, however, they are not armed with guns.    They are armed with federal funds from the Wildlife Restoration Act, also known as the Pittman-Robertson Act.
The Wildlife Restoration Act provides federal aid to states for management and restoration of wildlife.

"However, there's not a lot of quantifiable data to back that up. It's mostly anecdotal and based on expert opinions. But it's a strong perception among the biologists who work with turkeys across the Southeast - that populations have declined."

The Oakmulgee WMA in Bibb and Hale counties is included in the study areas.
