44-year-old Neal Pate was lighting fireworks with a youth group Friday night at his church in Bibb County. The fireworks exploded in his face. Doctors at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital had to remove his left eye.

His sister, Kathy McKay, says her brother is lucky to be alive.
