West Alabama Remembers Sgt. Ross Gray

The rain did not deter those who attended the Memorial Day program at Snow Hinton Park done in honor of Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Ross Franklin Gray, of Bibb County, who was killed in action in World War II.  

 

Retired U.S. Army Major Jeff Brown, Chairman of the Veterans Memorial Park Association, was on hand to reveal and dedicate the plaque to honor Sgt. Ross Gray.

The 24-yr-old, 15 ft, 9 in, 1,011.5 pound gator is on display for the first time at the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum at the Montgomery Zoo.

Montgomery: Gov. Robert Bentley today announced over 200 new grants to provide access, to voluntary pre-kindergarten care.

"I have wanted to go to the Cahaba Lily Festival for many years, but something always got in the way. This year, I finally made the trip to West Blocton.
Seeing the Cahaba lilies was incredible. But, one of the nicest components of the event was the free lunch provided by the community of West Blocton."



New Labor & Delivery Facility Set To Open In September


Thanks to a collaboration between Cahaba Medical Care, Bibb Medical Center, a federal grant, capital investments and hard work, a brand-new labor & delivery unit breaks ground at Bibb Medical Center.  Unit is scheduled to open in September.

 Mr. Duane McGee, Superintendent of the Bibb County Schools spoke to the Civitans about his transition as the new superintendent. Also bills that are being taken up in the Alabama State Legislature along with future plans for Bibb County Schools.
