We Told You That They Were Coming!
Centreville, AL; On April 21st 2015, a crowd of Bibb County residents turned out welcome Mr. James Standard and Mr. Thomas Preckwinkle to Bibb County. These two gentlemen were passing throught Bibb County following in the footsteps of their ancestors, who 150 years ago came storming into Centreville to capture the bridge over the Cahaba River. Mr. Preckwinkle's GG Grandfather was the commanding officer of the 1st Wisconsin Regimental Calvery who, on April 1st, 1865, occupied Centreville for three days while on their way to engage General Nathan Bedford Forrest in the "Battle of Selma" which was one of the final engagements of the Civil War.
The "Yankee" reenactors paid tribute to all soldiers of the conflict by laying a memorial wreath at the foot of the Confederate monument and offered a military salute to those who fought in America's bloody Civil War.
