BuiltWorlds Article Features UA Tech Training

Through MCAA's partnership with BuiltWorlds - a technology-based media organization - an article was published featuring the UA's technology-focused education being provided at its annual Instructor Training Program in Ann Arbor, MI. Among the training courses offered to instructors this year were in-depth training on virtual design and construction, total station devices, and a new course titled Jobsites of the Future, which featured training on 3D laser scanning, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, BIM, drones and DAQRI smart helmets. During the conference, BuiltWorlds interviewed Chris Haslinger, the UA's Director of Training, who said that to be competitive with their nonunion counterparts, union craft workers have to be more skilled, efficient and tech savvy. As part of MCAA's new Construction Technology Initiative, MCAA and the UA are working closely together to educate their respective members about the latest technologies now being used to plan, manage and construct projects.

Create a Cohesive Service Team
Create a Cohesive Service Team

Service dispatchers are critical to a company's bottom line because they have many touch points with customers and employees. Because they affect productivity and profitability, it is important that they have the tools to get the most from limited resources, build strong customer relationships and understand the needs of their service technicians and managers. However, many dispatchers don't reach their full potential because they haven't had the opportunity to acquire or fully develop the complex skillset needed to be effective in this role. MSCA's Dispatcher Professional Development Training Program, to be held September 14-15 (St. Louis, MO), closes that gap with a comprehensive program created for new as well as experienced dispatchers. This is the last dispatcher training for 2015.
MCAA Files Comments on Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces EO

MCAA is filing comments on President Obama's latest executive order affecting federal contractors (Executive Order 13673). The EO requires procurement agencies and Labor Compliance Advisors to assess the labor and employment law certifications of direct federal prime contractors performing projects over $500,000. Initially, the certification will apply to 14 federal labor employment laws and will later expand to comparable state laws, certifications and records of prime contractors performing contracts above $500,000 that will take effect in 2016. The proposed Federal Acquisition Regulations have also requested input on how agencies should implement a parallel requirement for legal compliance certifications of subcontractors with subcontracts above $500,000 under covered prime contracts. MCAA's view is that to make the EO workable and tenable, the regulations must require the agency contracting officers to assess the legal compliance certifications of both primes and covered subcontractors together and at the time of the project pre-award responsibility determination process. As currently proposed, the new procedures could allow primes to assess subcontractor legal compliance records and delegate that role to lower tier subs of covered sub-subs, thereby raising the potential for inconsistent application of the rules, liability exposure for misapplied rules and post-award renegotiation of other terms and conditions of subcontractors.
