New Electrical Safety for Service Training Materials Released

The National Fire Protection Association recently revised its standard NFPA 70E - Electrical Safety in the Workplace. The changes affect mechanical service technicians exposed to energized HVAC equipment. In response, MCAA has developed and produced all new safety training materials to help service technicians protect themselves when working on or around energized electrical conductors or circuit parts from equipment pushing 480 volts or less. The materials are based on NFPA 70E - 2015, Article 130 - Work Involving Electrical Hazards. The following new resources - free to MSCA and MCAA members - are now available:

  • Worker Safety Training Video;
  • Training Guide that Highlights Key Training Points;
  • Training Documentation Sheet; and
  • 20-Question Multiple Choice Test
2015 Student Summit to Focus on Technology

2015 Student Summit to Focus on Technology

MCAA's 2015 Student Chapter Summit (October 1-3, Cleveland, OH) will introduce members of our student chapters and their faculty advisors to the technologies that mechanical contractors are using to plan and manage projects. The centerpiece of this year's conference is a technology exhibit - organized by BuiltWorlds, the Chicago-based organization that MCAA is partnering with to promote vendors of construction technologies - where students will be able to actually handle technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, BIM technology enhancements and wearables. Educational sessions will feature construction technology futurist James Benham on current and emerging construction technologies and Jennifer Davis of Davisware, Inc. on the technologies used by mechanical service technicians in the field. Registration is now open!

Do Your Field Leaders Realize Their Value to Your Business?

Open their eyes to their importance by providing them with skills they need to be:

  • An effective people motivator rather than a punisher;

  • A team leader rather than a team member;
  • A skillful communicator, listener and arbiter rather than a my-way-or-the-highway dictator; and
  • A business- and results-oriented manager focused on growing your company's profits and brand.

NFPA Safety Training Webinars Are Open for Registration
Arc Flash Safety Training Webinar is Coming Up!

The NFPA Arc Flash Safety Training Webinar is July 30, 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. Mechanical and service employees who are exposed to electricity from HVAC work, electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, voltage testing, fuse testing, verifying a zero energy state, infrared imaging, etc. will learn how to keep safe on the job. It is also designed for those employees who manage or supervise electrical workers and safety/engineering professionals who manage the company's Electrical Safe Work Practices program. Presented by the Hilgeman Group, the session covers all applicable OSHA and NFPA requirements (including the NFPA revised 70E requirements) and best practices and provides participants with real-world accident information to reinforce the training.
Improve Customer Satisfaction with Dispatcher Training
Improve Customer Satisfaction with Dispatcher Training

Service dispatchers are your company's primary representatives with customers, and MSCA's Dispatcher Professional Development Training Program (September 14-15, 2015, St. Louis, MO) will increase their effectiveness in that role. This training will help new and experienced dispatchers understand their true role in the company, their importance to the company's bottom line and how they can contribute to your company's success. This is the last dispatcher training available this year, so don't delay.
