See a Project Through Another Person's Eyes and Ears at MCAA's Construction Technology Conference
Learn How New Technologies Can Work for Your Business at MCAA's Construction Technology Conference Have you ever wished you could share the problems you see on the job site with another project team member at another location...in real time? Your wishing days are over! XOEye, one of the new devices that constructors are wearing, allows multiple parties in the field and in remote locations to view a job site simultaneously. "The XOEye software suite allows a shared, first-person point-of-view through another's eyes and ears, with the inherent ability to communicate with that person in real time. XOEye allows workers to perform and share manual operations, employee training, diagnostics and quality control operations with remote teams from virtually any environment." (BuiltWorlds, April 28, 2015). This exciting new technology is just one of many that will be on display...and ready for you try on and try out...at MCAA's Construction Technology Conference, June 8-9 in Chicago, IL. Go to www.mcaa.org/education/mcaa/technology to view the full program and then register. Attendance is limited, so register now because you won't want to miss this exciting kickoff to MCAA's new Construction Technology Initiative.

2015 Fabrication Conference Confirmed Modularization as Most Important Trend

Interested in Hosting a Future Fabrication Conference? This week, more than 160 contractors from as far away as Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Australia and Canada came to the Chicago area to view the fabrication facilities of two large, full-service Illinois companies - Mechanical Inc. (Freeport, IL) and Hill Mechanical (Franklin Park, IL) - and to enjoy a mini product display, all of which comprised MCAA's 2015 Fabrication Conference. In addition to seeing how other companies are structured and function, attendees indicated that manpower is the most important fabrication asset and modularization is the most important trend. Special thanks to Brian Helm of Mechanical Inc. and Jim Hill of Hill Mechanical for sharing their companies' expertise and processes. Companies interested in hosting a future conference should contact Cynthia Buffington at cbuffington@mcaa.org for information.

Read the Conference Position Papers

More than 175 members of MCAA and allied organizations convened in Washington, D.C. at the Newseum on April 27-29, 2015, to push for Phase 2 of multiemployer pension reform, government tax incentives for energy efficient commercial and industrial facilities, direct federal construction project procurement policy reforms, and sustaining valuable prevailing wage and project labor agreement project delivery options for federal construction programs. MCAA/QCA program participants also engaged in 140 or more lobbying visits to House and Senate members. The conference pension panel discussion was moderated by former Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman, a consultant for MCAA and the UA on the pension reform measure, and included Congressman Dr. Phil Roe (R-TN), chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee; Randy De Frehn, Executive Director of the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans; and Senate Finance Committee staff member Presto Rutledge. Other conference panels covered legislative proposals to advance energy efficiency gains through tax incentives for energy retrofits to commercial and industrial facilities, highway and infrastructure measures, direct federal procurement reforms - including a ban on reverse auctions and individual surety reforms to help improve the federal contracting environment for small businesses - and workforce and economic policy issues. At lunch, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) addressed the group on a number of issues, including the pension reform measure that passed last year and Phase 2 pending this year in Congress. Labor Department Wage and Hour Administrator Dr. David Weil addressed the group on federal prevailing wage policy, efforts to stem worker misclassification as independent contractors and the MCAA/QCA support for administrative reforms to make the Obama Administration's Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order for direct federal prime contractors and subcontractors more equitable and workable. On April 29, New Jersey Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ) and North American Building Trades Unions Secretary/Treasurer Brent Booker addressed the group in advance of the Congressional hearing on Phase 2 of the multiemployer pension reform.
