MCAreers
The scores are in and the teams are set for the 2014-2015 MCAA Student Chapter Competition finals at MCAA 2015 in Maui, HI on March 10.  The teams are: Rocky Mountain Chapter of MCAA at Colorado State University; McMaster Student Chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) Hamilton (Canada); University of Washington Mechanical Contractors Student Chapter; and Wentworth Chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America. The teams received the best scores out of 24 entries. Judging took place on January 8 at MCAA's office in Rockville, MD.  The judges, who are all members of MCAA's Career Development Committee, were Kenneth A. Durr of Durr Mechanical Construction, Inc. (New York, NY), Michael J. Gallagher of The John F. Gallagher Company (Eastlake, OH), Kathleen McCauley of McCauley Mechanical Construction, Inc. (Bridgeview, IL) and J.L. Williams of Ryan & Associates, Inc. (Davenport, IA).  This year's project involved the construction of the Segundo Student Services Center (SSC) on the campus of the University of California at Davis. The facility is to be designed and built to meet LEED™ NC Gold standards. The competition began at the 2014 Student Chapter Summit in Jersey City, NJ, on October 11, 2014, and will culminate with the Final Four presentations. The judges of the finals competition will choose the first and second place winners who will receive cash prizes of $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.  The other two finalists will each receive $1,000.  The competition results will be announced at the Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony on March 11. Send in Your Company's 2014 Safety Data
Start gathering your company's 2014 safety data for a safety benchmarking report and an MCAA Safety Certificate of Commendation, if eligible. If your company achieved a Lost Workday Cases Incidence Rate of zero or one that is 25% or more below the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average for mechanical construction in 2014, MCAA will send you a certificate of commendation that is suitable for framing. Regardless of your 2014 safety record, MCAA will send you a benchmarking report that allows you to confidentially compare your company's incidence rates with the aggregates of others in your size category and with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic's averages for the mechanical industry. To make the request, please visit http://www.mcaa.org/safetycommendation and complete a short, simple form using your company's 2014 OSHA 300A form as a guide. The completed forms are due to MCAA by the close of business on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. The certificates will be delivered in April 2015.

MSCA's New Webinar Series Teaches Leadership through Team-Building
Ever Tried a Webinar?
Steve Thomas, MSCA's highest ranked conference speaker to date, will present MSCA's newest webinar series on team-building. Almost every leader wants to build a "team" within his or her organization. The challenge is, what does "team" mean? Steve Thomas will teach you what it truly is (and isn't), and how to embody it as a team player and a leader in this six-part series. The first webinar will be held on February 11 at 1:00 p.m. EST. Registration is now open at https://msca.webex.com. Tentative dates for the remaining webinars are April 1, June 3, September 2, November 4, and December 6. This series is free to all MCAA/MSCA members as a benefit. For more information, contact Barbara Dolim ([email protected]).
There's Still Time to Register for a Life-Saving Webinar
NFPA Safety Training Webinars Are Open for RegistrationIf you have employees who are exposed to electricity during their workday, they should sign up for the next NFPA 70E Qualified-Level Arc Flash Safety Training Webinars on January 20, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. NFPA just released its revised 70E code which took effect on January 1, so this webinar is a great way for employees who are potentially exposed to live conductors of 50 volts of electricity or more, and especially mechanical service technicians who work on units that generate up to 480 volts, to learn about the newly revised code and safe work practices that will prevent incidents, injuries and worse. Presented by the Hilgeman Group, the session covers all applicable OSHA and NFPA requirements, best practices and provides participants with real-world accident information to reinforce the training. Contact the Hilgeman Group ([email protected]) to register.
Take Your Leadership to the Next Level with MSCA's Sales Leadership Symposium
Advance Entry-Level Employees' Skills at Sales Basecamp
MSCA is offering a second Sales Leadership Symposium (February 23-24, Philadelphia, PA) due to popular demand. Designed exclusively for sales leaders (even if he/she does not have a sales manager job title), attendees will further develop the skills needed to recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and train a strong team through this extended two-day seminar. Participation in this session is required by the sales leader before team members can attend the Sales Masters program (for intermediate- and advanced-level service sales staff) to ensure that managers are equipped to support employees who advance through the Sales Masters program. Visit www.msca.org/salesinstitute/leadership to register for the Sales Leadership Symposium. This is the only Symposium scheduled for 2015 and the class size is limited, so register early. For information about all MSCA Sales Institute programs, visit the MSCA Sales Institute Web page. Contact Sobeida Orantes ([email protected]) with registration questions.
