MCAA Members' Last-Minute Advocacy Needed to Help Multiemployer Pension Reform Pass This Year
Last-Minute Advocacy Needed to Pass Pension Reform
House and Senate leadership are conferring about whether multiemployer pension reform is possible on one or two bills that may move through Congress during the lame duck session. Leaders of the House Education and Workforce Committee have drafted the multiemployer pension reform measure and are awaiting word from the Senate that it will consider the measure if it's attached to a bill that is moving. So far, House and Senate leaders have been unable to muster that assurance, primarily due to opposition from one or two Democratic Senators. Their refusal to support SNB threatens a high percentage of the 10 million plan participants whose benefits may suffer greater cuts if SNB does not pass this year. In the next two weeks, while the leadership determines whether to move a measure in the lame duck session, please go to http://www.mcaa.org/advocacy one last time and send the message there to your Senators.
