MCAA's Collective Bargaining Seminar Can Help You Prepare for Your Next Labor Negotiation

If you feel you need to strengthen your arsenal of negotiating tools for an upcoming collective bargaining event, then plan to attend MCAA's 2014 Collective Bargaining Seminar. The seminar, which will take place September 8-10 in Washington DC, will feature: basic negotiation strategies; preparation tools, information and advice; current collective bargaining topics, including multiemployer pension issues; equal employment/affirmative action rules and collective bargaining issues for federal contractors; trade jurisdictional issues; and a roundtable discussion on National Labor Relations Board issues affecting contractors.  A preliminary program and registration details are at www.mcaa.org/education.  A legislative fly-in program may take place on September 11 if there is a need for intensive lobbying on vital pension reform legislation.

Coming Soon - The 2014-2015 Tool & Equipment Rental Guide

This popular publication puts updated, comprehensive cost recovery information at your fingertips so you can focus on other areas of your business. Included are rental rates based on ownership and operating costs for contractor-owned equipment. They have been derived from formulas and data developed by the experts at EquipmentWatch and from analytic methods used in the construction industry. Generally, these methods consider purchase price, depreciation, maintenance and overhaul costs, indirect equipment costs, and average annual use hours. Profit, project overhead and general company overhead costs, such as office facilities and supplies, are not included in these rates. Like the 2012-2013 edition, the guide will be provided as a PDF that's perfect for reading and includes information to help you adjust the rates for your state's economic conditions and an Excel spreadsheet that makes it easy to import the data into your pricing system. Management Methods Committee to Release New Bulletin on Subguard/Subcontractor Default Insurance

MCAA's Management Methods Manual Shares Best Practices If a general contractor on a project that your company is bidding calls for detailed financial information to ensure it meets the requirements of the GC's subguard insurance policy, you're not alone. These policies are becoming mor e common, especially with large GCs, construction managers and design-build firms. To help you understand the nature and requirements of subguard/subcontractor default insurance policies, MCAA's Management Methods Committee is preparing to publish a new bulletin that will explain how they differ from more traditional insurance policies, their advantages and disadvantages and how they may affect your company's relationship with the lead contractor on a project. The bulletin will be available online free as a benefit to MCAA and MSCA members within the next two weeks at http://www.mcaa.org/private/mgmtmeth.
